Ugo Mulas (Italian, 1928–1973) was a significant 20th-century photographer, especially known for his street photography and portraits of artists. Born in Pozzolengo, Italy, he originally studied law in Milan before changing his focus to art and photography. Mostly self-taught, Mulas began by photographing the outskirts of the city and his friends during nights out. His style was off-the-cuff and casual, which would remain a hallmark of his work.
