About
The Anonymous Project
In 2017, director Lee Shulman randomly purchases a box of vintage slides and falls completely in love with the people and stories he discovers through these unique windows into our past lives. Collecting and preserving unique color slides from the past 70 years, the project was born out of a desire to safeguard this collective memory and give a second life to people often forgotten in these timeless moments, captured by these stunning Kodachromes. These amateur photographs are a kaleidoscopic diary of an era, all the more fascinating and arresting because of their raw quality. Often funny, surprising and touching, these images tell the stories of our lives.
The Anonymous Project has become an artistic enterprise that seeks to make sense of these once forgotten memories and to create new ways of interpreting and telling stories that question our place in today's world.
These unique selections of images come from Lee Shulman's private collection, which today numbers over 800,000 slides.
