About Hidden
Hidden was a response to the war in Afghanistan in 2002. The Imperial War Museum in London commissioned the book in their longstanding series of war art commissions. So, photographs of minefields and battle sites acknowledge that almost everything in the conflict was hidden or invisible.
In Hidden, the violence is defined, but yet to happen. ‘The minefield provides a succinct and powerful means of conveying this lingering threat and menace, but unlike many of Seawrights other landscapes, enables him to suggest a force and deadly threat beyond and opposed to the beauty…. The violence in these landscapes of minefields is still to come, present but hidden, primed, a future devastation.'
