About
Seeing the static, silent, empty landscapes, noting the overwhelming absence of life and being confronted with what remains after the mega-forest fires have passed.
It is not about the material loss, but about the intimate apprehension of the emotional burden.
The complexity of human perception is questioned here, by an adjustment mechanism that allows us to tame the brutal, the destructive. The way we set up a process to make Thanatos bearable. And our strength to seek beauty in absolute darkness.
The This Too Shall Pass project begins in Australia in 2020 and continues in France between 2021 and 2023.
It is divided into three stages. First, denial and shock in the face of the immense darkness. Then the hand-to-hand combat, awareness and confrontation with this new reality. And finally, oblivion and abstraction. Life resumes its course, giving way to a feeling of helplessness, although the forests continue to burn.
Unique pieces, ballpoint pen ink on photograph, charcoal traces of burnt trees on photograph, collage of photographic fragments with burnt outlines.
