All that life can afford is Matt Stuarts' first book of photographs taken in London between February 2002 and November 2015. It contains 80 images, 160 pages and includes an essay by Geoff Dyer. Designed by Stuart Smith, Published by Plague Press.
Matt’s photographs explore those rare magical moments, when people, objects and locations work so perfectly together to bring images which explore the tender moments and human life in a busy capital city. Statement from Matt Stuart
The title took a long time to come up with, Stuart Smith the designer I worked with kept on telling me how important the book title is, it can be the difference between somebody picking up a book or not. So I kept on coming up with titles and he kept on sending me back to the drawing board. Eventually after an inspiring trip to Istanbul I came up with the title “All that life can afford” on the plane home, it comes from the famous Samuel Johnson quote;
“Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford.”
