About Morgue
The images in Morgue were taken at the state morgue of Rhode Island between 1972 and 1973. The photographs are of corpses taken into examination, in need of answers for their accidental or suspicious deaths. Crib deaths, suicide, accidental monoxide intoxication, the crude portraits expose a reality that we don't often have to face. That one of death and what happens afterwards.
A highly cold and forensic setting along the black and white photographs create a dark atmosphere, but it doesn't become morbid, for Silverthorne portrays the subjects with dignity and not in a morbid fashion.
