About Behind the Camera
Behind the Camera gathers over a hundred photographs that offer a full range insight on Brandt's work. Hence, we find striking portraits of culture personalities and intellectuals (such as David Hockney, Alec Guinness, etc.), images from London during the war, romantic British landscapes and his idiosyncratic exploration of the nude.
About Bill Brandt
Bill Brandt was a British photographer and photojournalist. Although he was originally from Germany, he moved to England in the 1930’s. He would later reject his German nationality and say that he had been born in South London.
It was in London where he became known for his images of British society.
Bill Brandt’s career spanned nearly half a century. Also, he mastered several genres of photography, starting with photojournalism but later going into distorted nudes, portraits of famous artists and landscapes. He is widely considered to be one of the most important British photographers of the 20th century.
