Circuses are  enchanting, otherworldly places not only for children, but also for adults. The performance, the magic, the mystery and the fantasy, everything seems captivating and marvelous. But have you ever wondered what happens behind the curtains? Well, in his book Bruce Davidson invites us to take a peek backstage. The featured work is from three different American circuses and spans across a whole decade. In addition, most of the photographs included are published here for the very first time. Davidson's book offers the viewer more than a glimpse of what happens during a performance (which Davidson went to great lengths to capture, sometimes fearlessly climbing to the top of the tent!). It also provides a genuine insight into the circus everyday life, when the costumes are off and the magic is paused. The resulting images from Bruce Davidson's time with the performers are poetic and intimate. This books opens up the door and lets us in, to explore the circus world and its inhabitants:  acrobats, clowns, lion-tamers and even human-cannonballs.
