Bruce Gilden

Bruce Gilden is an American street photographer. We have just published his latest photobook, Black Country, which is available for sale below.  During a three week stay back in 2013 Gilden documented overlooked people, factories and homes in the Midlands in order to unveil and study the changing landscape of post-industrialised Britain.

Bruce Gilden is best known for his candid close-up photographs of people on the streets of New York City. He was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1946. He first went to Penn State University but he found his sociology courses too boring for his temperament. So, he quit college. Gilden then briefly toyed with the idea of being an actor but in 1967, he decided to buy a camera and become a photographer. Gilden is substantially considered as a self-taught photographer. Even though he did attend some evening classes at the school of Visual Arts in New York. City. He has had various photobooks of his work published. Also, he has received the European Publishers Award for Photography and is a Guggenheim Fellow.
